‘In Australia alone a child suffers from abuse every 13 minutes’.
- Stopping child abuse before it starts by working with families
- The understanding of child abuse
- Changing the community’s understanding towards child abuse
- Training volunteer telephone support workers
- Working with professional and non–professional groups establishing community awareness of the issue of child abuse
Our objectives are;
- To prevent child abuse by providing a 24 hour crisis support service to parents or caregivers who feel at risk of abusing children.
- To offer ongoing support to caregivers and/or children.
- To provide the community with information on support services throughout Australia.
- To offer referrals where necessary to relevant professionals and agencies.
- To educate the community on child abuse and how CAPS functions
- To offer a comprehensive training program for all CAPS volunteer telephone support workers.
CAPS is a national 24hr crisis line taking over 6000 calls per year. We offer telephone support to parents and care givers who feel they may be at risk of abusing their children.
We also provide information and support to members of the community who are aware of children being abused or are at risk of being abused. For example neighbours, family members, teachers etc.
This service operates on minimal funding from the Department of Community services, and relies on donations for the running cost such as rent, telephone, general office management and clinical support and training to both volunteers and the community at large. For the past few years donations from have contributed to securing the rental property in which CAPS currently resides. This is a major expense to our service and we greatly appreciate these donations.
